Coasting…

April 17, 2008

…and dreaming of the coast, simultaneously! I am officially on the countdown to vacation. To be honest, I’ve been counting down since we booked it, but it’s just closer now so, well, counting down is easier (smaller numbers). The official count? Let’s just say 4 days from now I’ll be settled into my villa on the Newport Coast, unpacked, with a kitchen full of food and a full week…with an empty schedule!

Speaking of that empty schedule, who has suggestions for awesome things to do on the Newport Coast, in Orange County, or even LA or San Diego? I am 4 months pregnant and therefore plan to minimize time in the hideous tankini I bought for this trip, which leaves beach/pool time (I’m hoping) to a minimum. So far we have plans to catch a Dodgers game (thanks Glen!), check out Catalina Island, probably cruise through Hollywood in the fullsize sedan we rented after we thought better of the convertible we originally rented, and are considering a trip down to the San Diego Zoo. Those of you who know me are probably wondering why I haven’t mentioned Disneyland. Those of you who read my blog know that is soooo last year!

So anyways, as for the whole coasting thing…I have pretty much nothing going on until I leave. Work is winding down this week - I’m still working but I have zero lunches and only 1 appointment, which just makes the day a bit less stressful. I have no band practice Thursday night, no plans Friday night, no plans Saturday, and Sunday all I have to do is get on a plane. Unfortunately I have to get on a plan without Brian but I am willing to sacrifice traveling with him considering it resulted in the 50,000 skymiles we had originally spent on my flight being redeposited into my account. Long story - good ending though! I’d have to guess Brian is not so sad about missing out on flying across the country with me complaining about being hungry or tired, or my back hurting, or my greatest fear: throwing up the entire way there (let’s just say I’ve heard some horror stories). I’m sure it will all be fine and I’ll see him shortly after I get there. Then there’s just one thing on the agenda - RELAX and ENJOY! When was the last time you took a vacation? Go book one! You can be as happy as I am right now!

And for all you who are terrified at the prospect of an entire week of bloglessness here on BrianandLibby.com (anybody?!?) - YES the resort has wireless! So we’ll be in touch.

PS - anyone read any good books lately? I’m bringing Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. I think I’ll have time for at least one more.

  1. One thing you could have going for you on that flight without Brian…look pregnant, look sad (without Brian) and then mention to the flight attendant that you hope they have a lot of ginger ale (or whatever you like on your flights)…I guarantee that the attendant, your seat partner, and those around you will attend to ALL your needs!

  2. jealousy has entered my life officially

  3. Wouldn’t it be super awesome if they felt extra sorry for you and put you in first class?!!!
We missed you last night in Colonie, but got it done. Have a restful trip and see you when you get home.

  4. Lib,
Have only been to SD, but here are my recommendations if you make the trip. Skip the zoo and to the Wild Animal Park instead. We did both and I think the zoo is sort of depressing compared to the park. Go see the seals in La Jolla (at the Children’s Pool/Casa Beach) and check out the town. We also did Sea World (I heart Shamu). Didn’t have time to check out old town SD, but it looked cool. Also, have a burger at Ruby’s Diner at Oceanside Pier. It’s a diner at the end of a pier. We could see dolphins in the water- so cool and awesome chocolate shakes, too :)
    Have a great vaca!!

  5. Zoo! Zoo! Zoo! (Mary clearly has no idea what she is talking about).

  6. When you stop to drop off Posh remind Cheryl to give you the book “90 Minutes in Heaven” if you haven’t read it already. It’s the story of a minister from Oklahoma or Texas that is involved in an auto accident, is pronounced dead by EMT’s at the scene and litterally wakes up 90 minutes later while a Pastor is praying over his dead body in the wreck. I read it on the plane when we went to SC to see Eric and finished it on the way down there < 3 hours to read the book. His “story” about his time spent in heaven with his “family” that met him there is wonderful.

  7. Hey! Enjoy your vacation, hon. Did you know that Jhumpa Lahiri came out with a new book? It’s called Unaccustomed Earth. I highly recommend it for your trip!

  8. Marti - I LOVE that idea! However if I’m trying to cash in on sympathy, I think I will ask them if they have doritos or chocolate cake, not just ginger ale ;)

Pam - Maybe I will combine yours and Marti’s suggestions and try to exchange pity for a first class seat! I LOVE that idea! Missed you guys too. Hope it went well!

Mary - I’ll order my burger and chocolate shake now! You know all my favorite things. I definitely want to see Shamu, we’ll see if that works out.

Lauren - don’t worry, we’ll definitely go to the zoo. Brian can’t wait!

Paul - I will have to do that! I think I’ve heard of that book, it sounds awesome. Thanks again for Poshy-sitting! I’m worried that she’ll love it so much she won’t want to come home to me!

Heather - I don’t even know who that is but I will check out the book! Thanks!

  9. yeah…seriously, don’t go to a zoo on your vacation. The diner at the end of the pier in Oceanside is cool, as is seal beach in La Jolla. Oh, and don’t forget to say hi to L.C., Heidi and Spencer for me. Ok, maybe not Spencer…he’s a tool.

  10. Jeremy - you need to read Kevin’s blog. Jealousy = bad (unless you are God)

Stevo - But it’s THE zoo! I will tell all of your friends hello. But first maybe you should meet them? Just a thought.
