When someone tells you that you should gain 30 pounds over the next 7 months, it’s really hard to be disciplined about healthy eating
If my current intake is any indication, our baby is going to be born as a Dunkin Donuts plain bagel, or a Chicken Frontega sandwich (Panera, of course)
When you tell people you are pregnant, they don’t look at your belly, which is good, because I have reached the point where I can’t suck mine in anymore.
When you tell people you are pregnant, one of the first things they ask you is whether you’re going to find out the sex or not (the answer is yes, for those of you who are wondering)
Transitioning out of the “sickness” phase into the “hungry all the time” phase is a recipe for disaster. You go from eating anything that you can hold down, regardless of nutritional content, to being hungry every 2.5 hours…and you’re supposed to be good? Come on!
I have been doing pretty well, considering. I have only had 2 baked goods, and both were small. Today I ate soup and salad - a meal in which bread was not a headliner. Big progress. I compensated by having grilled cheese for dinner. It’s all about balance, right?
This whole post (almost) is about food…hence the latter half of the title (which I just added)
This pregnancy seemed to drag at the beginning. Couldn’t go to the doctor, couldn’t tell anyone, couldn’t get an ultrasound. Now all of a sudden I am a third of the way through it…a third of the way through the last 9 months of my life that I won’t be a mommy
I am totally not ready to be referred to as a “mommy.” That still scares the crap out of me. I am very uncomfortable with the entire concept.
Brian and I are at a stalemate for boy names. We went to dinner and tried to use it as a brainstorming session. By the end, Brian was throwing out ideas like London, Brooklyn, and Trenton (as in New Jersey). I walked out.
Two things: It IS all about balance. You eat that grilled cheese, girl! And, two, I would have walked out as well…
As for boy names, have you considered looking at some family names, last names or otherwise, that might make things interesting? I have a Great-Great Grandfather named Michael Hassler…makes me like the name Michael…
PS…the idea of being called “mom” is a bit scary…and I’m not even pregnant! Btw…I just found out that two other people I know are pregnant too…that makes six total…
I think I’d stay away from family names…no matter which one you choose, the other side of the family feels left out. Even if you promise that the next one will come from that side. Maybe I’ll pick up one of those baby-name books while I’m waiting in line at the grocery store…just noticed you didn’t say anything about girl names. Does that mean you have some picked out?
Heather - I think you know more pregnant people than me! And we are definitely scouring both families for good names!
Stevo - You are herefore banned from suggesting names. You and Brian should co-author a book on “names that will make your kid think you hate them”
Marti - Good point. Have to be fair, right? And you may be on to something about the girl names
Wallet - I like the name Brian but we veto’d that for the same reason we vetoed Livvy (as in Olivia)…too confusing when you call out the name and you can’t tell who you’re calling!
Lauren - I actually like the name Camden! And p.s. you can’t really throw babies in the basement unsupervised…they have to be at least 2 for that.
I was freaked out about the whole mom concept until I REALLY started feeling her move around in there- not just little flutters- but the actual constant somersaults and stretches where I can see her little body move inside mine. Now it feels real. I can feel her little arms and legs and back and butt (and constant hiccups) and think about what she looks like and it’s not quite so scary b/c I can’t help but just start to fall in love with her.
Jon - definitely a good name but we had to veto it (not because of you!) I will explain later!
Lauren - thanks for the tip
Kelly - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW! I can’t wait!
Usually when I tell people this, they get mad at me. But I’m willing to take the risk! I only gained 30 lbs with my twins! And lost it all in about 2 months-just from breastfeeding one of the girls. Most women hate me for that! BUT my hope for you is that you have the same luck. Although, who really cares! Eat what you want now too, b/c at 30 weeks I got gestational diabetes and couldn’t eat ANYTHING anymore! Not fair for a pregnant woman! It was not fair…and of course I had to take my blood 4 times a day-which wasn’t fun either. Anyway, good luck throughout your pregnancy. It will all be worth it when your little angel arrives!

since we are going with NJ city names, how about Parsippany?

I vote for Brian Jr.
Just think - two Brians in your life! Then you can give the little guy a cool nickname.
Wow, someone has beat me in my baby boom vortex. I didn’t think it was possible.
Also this-don’t forget the great dirty Jerz city of Camden.
Also, also this-it was weird last night when you wrote “6 month old in tow.” I had to stop and let that sink in.

“Jonathan” is a really good name…
As you can tell I’m working a lot today.
I want to throw in that Guy’s dad’s name is Guy. And his mom’s name is Joan and his sister’s name is Joan. It’s a bunch of confusion. Not suggested.

I know that he is not native to NY but please inform Brian that naming your child after a city in NJ is reprehensible
Trenton was not on my list for real…haha..however Brooklyn and London were. Brooklyn Howe has a ring to it! Ha…
