As I was leaving, Isa was helping me pack and asking me why I had to go back. I told her I was meeting uncle Brian at church. She said “But you can just stay here and go to my church.” And I told her that my church was at home in Albany and I had to go home and see Uncle Brian (and Posh of course). To which she responded, disappointedly “I don’t even know what Albany looks like” (with puppy dog eyes and pouty face). She also wasn’t thrilled about the fact that I came to visit without Uncle Brian and Posh. Apparently both of them are significantly more exciting than I am. Oh well! Maybe we will have to have each of the girls up to our house for a weekend so they can check out Albany for themselves.

Since I became a “grown up” (I use that term very loosely) I have found myself frustrated with the entire issue of car repair. I hopped around to various repair shops - big chains were so overpriced, and smaller shops left me frustrated with poor customer service and very little communication about the condition of my car. A few years ago someone at an auto parts store sent me to small shop in Clifton Park because my check engine light was on and they said his shop would read the computer to get the code of what was wrong with the car for free (a “procedure” that costs at least $75 elsewhere). Sold!
And so it began - my first trip to Jay’s Auto. This place always calls to tell me what’s wrong, gives me quotes before repairing or ordering parts, and consistently comes in with price quotes that are sometimes HALF the quote I get from the dealer. And since it’s been about 3 years and we’ve been bringing (sometimes towing) 2 cars to him for everything during that time with no problems, I think it’s safe to say it’s quality work!
Why do I bring all this up? Well, while Brian’s beloved Passat started up just fine today, it would shift into gear. We had it towed (to Jay’s of course) and I was waiting with fear and trepidation for the call…to see how much our new transmission would cost. Surely, this was a miracle even Jay’s Auto could not perform. But alas, I get the call, and it’s not transmission related - it’s damage to the axle. And guess what, they put new axles in for us about a year ago, so any work they do to repair or replace it is completely covered.
It’s like Christmas in February!
I wouldn’t have even remembered that I had gotten new axles, let alone expect them to take care of it free of charge! So if you live around there, bring your car to Jay’s Auto. I’ve referred lots of friends there and they’re all happy customers like me now!

Found a new place I really like today…Professor Java’s on Wolf Road. I’ve driven by it many a time but never knew what that little house on Wolf Road had to offer inside of it. Well today, I found out. A cozy but spacious interior with great breakfast (very reasonably priced), a huge coffee selection, lunch and “lite fare” for later, and, the piece de resistance…Free Wi-Fi. I am hooked. Brian is going to love this place and considering that work should take him down that way now and again, I’m sure he’ll be able to make use of the recommendation soon. Try it out. You won’t be disappointed.
While enjoying my time at Professor Java’s, I read some other very good news. This should be good for business. For the record, Plavix is NOT a bloodthinner…it’s an antiplatelet - DUH.
